Nicole D. Snyder, Esquire will be presenting with co-presenter Christine Gordon, Esquire on “Transition from Brick & Mortar to Virtual School and School Avoidance/Phobia”.
This presentation will address the increasing challenge schools are facing relative to school avoidance and school phobia. The COVID pandemic has resulted in an increase of students who are experiencing mental health challenges with a return to brick-and-mortar environments. We’ll explore the impact of COVID on transitioning back to school environments, the functions of school avoidance behaviors, as well as the school’s responsibilities regarding IDEA and Section 504 including child find, eligibility, and effective strategies. Relevant case law will be discussed to assist schools in planning for school avoidance cases.
